Most thrift shops, particularly those whose business is fundraising, will happily accept donations of good used clothing. Here are some specific examples:
The Matric Thrift Shop
This initiative was started in Kuils River. It aims to make matric balls affordable for learners in Mitchells Plain and Athlone by offering formal outfits for only R10. It’s Your Turn
Give those ‘princess gowns’ still taking up space in your closet a second storybook chance. It’s Your Turn focuses on collecting and redistributing old ball gowns/matric dance dresses to girls who could otherwise not afford the frocks for their matric dances. Dress It Forward
This organisation in Fishhoek collects pre-loved dresses and suits from both the UK and South Africa and gives them for free to students in South Africa who would otherwise not have anything to wear to their prom. This then relieves their families of the financial burden of their Graduation Ball.
