Development began in the industrial area of Epping in the late 1940s. This was quite slow to begin with. In the 1950s the circular road, Gunners circle was used as a car racing track. As development in the area picked up this activity was stopped.
When the Athlone power station was finished the area grew more quickly. Epping is well situated on major transportation and public transport routes.
The Cape Town Fresh produce market is situated in Epping, it has been trading over 50 years and it is one of the oldest in South Africa.
