Epping

Epping is a major industrial area on the Cape Flats in Cape Town, Western Cape, known for manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics, with excellent road access to the city and airport.

Epping is a major industrial suburb located approximately 15 km southeast of the Cape Town city centre on the Cape Flats. It is bordered by Manenberg, Athlone, and Macassar. Epping serves as a key hub for manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics in the Western Cape, with access to the N2 and M5 freeways, linking it to central Cape Town, Cape Town International Airport, and regional freight routes.

History of Epping

Development began in this industrial area in the late 1940s. This was quite slow to begin with. In the 1950s, the circular road, Gunners Circle, was used as a car racing track. As development in the area picked up, this activity was stopped.
When the Athlone power station was finished, the area grew more quickly. It is well situated on major transportation and public transport routes.
The Cape Town Fresh Produce Market is situated in Epping. It has been trading for over 50 years, and it is one of the oldest in South Africa.

Transport
