Fisherhaven is a small coastal village located on the shores of the Bot River Lagoon, near the town of Hermanus in the Overberg region. It lies along the southern Cape coast, offering access to the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding wetlands. Fisherhaven is accessible via local roads connecting to the R43 regional route and is known for boating, birdwatching, and views across the lagoon and nearby mountains.
History of Fisherhaven
Fisherhaven is a suburb of Hermanus, which was established on the Afdaksrivier farm, first recorded in 1754. It is close to the Bot River lagoon, and it is within the abundant Cape Fynbos floral kingdom. The area is also well known for bird watching and whale watching. The local lagoon is a popular watersports venue. A few of the wild horses from the Bot Rivier herd have chosen Fisherhaven as their home.
Squadron 262 of the Royal Air Force established a diversion base at the lagoon during World War II. Consolidated Catalina flying boats were operated from the area
