Redelinghuys, is a town in the Western Cape, situated at the foothills of the Olifants River Mountains. It lies south of Velddrif, west of Piketberg, and north of Eendekuil. The town serves as a hub for agriculture, including wheat, fruit, and vineyards, and offers easy access to nearby rivers, mountain trails, and scenic countryside.
History of Porterville
The town was laid out in 1863 on the farm Pomona, after Frederick John Owen, one of the original 1820 Settlers, subdivided his farm into plots, which was previously called Willems Vallei. Porterville became a municipality in 1903 and was named after William Porter, Attorney General of the Cape Colony from 1839 to 1866. Porterville was the terminus of the railway on the Cape Town to Port Elizabeth line. Long known as the home of the rare Disa Uniflora flower, it is also a paragliding and hang-gliding capital. People from all over the world come here to “fly”.
The town has grown into one of the most popular country towns, attracting artisans and entrepreneurs, which has propelled it into a tourism and lifestyle destination. However, the main economy of the area revolves mostly around wheat production.
Porterville is the perfect base to explore some of South Africa’s top destinations. From the stunning West Coast to the country’s flower paradise
The license plate prefix is CEX, and the postal code is 6810
