The Dwyka River
River running by Laingsberg
The Dwyka River flows from the northwest, joining the Gamka River at the Gamka Dam.
In the 1870s, the Cape Colony government extended the railway towards Kimberley where diamonds had been discovered.  The line crossed the Dwyka River and a station by the same name was established
The name  Dwyka River was subsequently adopted by geologists to define the Karoo Ice Age 300 million years ago. Important sites in the Cape show evidence of glaciation millions of years ago.
