The Angling Museum traces the history of fishing and angling in South Africa through displays of traditional fishing methods and modern equipment, including rods, reels, hooks, lures, flies, spearfishing gear and other tackle. Established through a collaboration between the Knysna community and the former JLB Smith Institute of Ichthyology (now the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity), the museum was proposed in 1991 by Professor Mike Bruton. Its exhibits explore the development of angling while encouraging visitors to consider their relationship with fish, aquatic ecosystems and the importance of environmental conservation.
