Vredehoek is a quiet hillside suburb in Cape Town, known for its scenic views of the city and Table Mountain. While small, it’s home to local cafés, parks, and charming streets to explore. Its central location makes it an easy stop for visitors looking to see a different side of Cape Town beyond the main tourist spots.
Vredehoek is recognised by the Disa Towers. The contentious buildings resemble salt and pepper pots. The design is aimed at minimising the impact of the wild south-easter
History of Vredehoek
“Peace Corner”
The suburb was proclaimed shortly after World War 1. When peace was declared, many immigrants settled here. The houses are old, and there are moves for some urban renewal. It is on the slopes of Table Mountain and offers stunning city and mountain views, a vibrant café culture, and easy access to hiking trails.
The forested areas once provided sanctuary to runaway slaves. There are two Kramats on the mountain slope marking the graves of holy men who died in the Cape.
The postcode is 8001
