Sonstraal Dam is the lower of the two stormwater retention dams. There are 300 similar dams within the City of Cape Town. Â The Vygeboom Dam, also known as the Jonkershoek Dam, is downstream on Dalsig Way just to the North-West.
The dam wall was built in the mid-80s and it is fed from the upper Vygeboom Dam. It is home to many bird and fish species.
The area is great for picnics, walking, and jogging. There are great bird-watching and photographic opportunities.
