Rooi Els Beach

The little seaside village of Rooi Els is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere. The town’s beach has water on three sides, including the Rooi Els River estuary that drains into the sea east of the town. The Hangklip mountain looms in the background. It is a registered conservancy, and so the rights of Cape clawless otters, rock-jumpers, and other unusual birds are important to residents here.

Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells. Shell identification guide
