Uitkamp Wetland Nature Reserve
The Uitkamp Wetland Nature Reserve is perfect for nature walks. The site was proclaimed a nature reserve in 2001. Local residents formed the Uitkamp Action Group in 2006 to help conserve the precious 32 ha wetland. In spring, masses of arum lilies and pink watsonias flower in the waterlogged central valley. The edges are dryer and moederkappie orchids, babianas, sparaxis, moraeas, sundews, and purple-and-red wine cups grow. The Cape caco frog and the Cape rain frog are found here, both are considered as threatened.
Invasive alien Port Jackson trees, kikuyu grass and other garden plants unfortunately grow in the area. Pollution by stormwater from the surrounding D’Urbanvale residential area also poses a challenge.
