Hotagterklip’ is the Afrikaans for ‘left rear stone, this is derived from ox waggon trekking days where a stone outcrop caused travellers to make a detour. The cottages at Hotagterklip which were restored in the 1990s are provincial heritage sites. The UNESCO Cape Floral region protected area is nearby.
