Burgundy Estate

A well-planned, upmarket suburb on land from De Grendel Farm, featuring secure living, open spaces, shopping, and scenic surroundings.

The suburb is located in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, between Plattekloof, Bothasig, and Milnerton, and lies close to major transport routes, including the N7 and Plattekloof Road. Its position places it within easy reach of the Cape Town CBD, Century City, and the Blaauwberg coastal corridor.

Set on gently undulating former farmland, the area offers wide views across vineyards towards Table Mountain and the Tygerberg hills. Despite its urban character, it retains a semi-rural feel due to its proximity to De Grendel Wine Estate and surrounding agricultural land.

History of Burgundy Estate

This suburb is a relatively recent residential development created on land subdivided from De Grendel Farm, a historic property that has belonged to the Graaff family for several generations. De Grendel was established in the early 18th century and is one of the oldest farms in the Cape.

While the farm is best known today for its vineyards and wine production, earlier farming activities were more diverse. Under Sir David Graaff, the land was used for grazing Friesland cattle and for breeding and training Arabian thoroughbred horses. The open plains and gentle slopes made the area well-suited to livestock and horse farming before viticulture became dominant.

As Cape Town expanded northwards, portions of the farm were identified for residential development. The suburb was planned as a high-density, upmarket estate, with a strong emphasis on security, landscaped open spaces, and integrated retail and service nodes. Development has been carefully managed to retain green corridors and views towards Table Mountain and the surrounding farmland.

The postcode for Burgundy Estate is 7441
