Tygerberg Nature Reserve
Tygerberg Nature Reserve covers an area of 388 hectares and boasts 562 different plant species. The eastern slope of the reserve consists of old ploughed fields that are in the process of being restored. The western slope is close to pristine Swartland shale Renosterveld. The view from the top of the reserve’s hill is magnificent, with a 360-degree view of the City. Permits are required and are available at the gate. The Kristo Pienaar Environmental Education Centre is a popular, well-run venue and contains a resource centre with a library and a herbarium.
A network of 13 well-marked, interconnecting trails leading to the top where you can see panoramic views of Table Mountain, Robben Island and sometimes the False Bay coastline. To access the highest peak take the Golden Mole trail or the Ukhetshe trail that runs along the edge of the mountain.
