Museum in Gansbaai
The Strandveld Museum is situated in Frikkiesbaai, Franskraal 5km south of Gansbaai. The building dates back to the 1860s. it was originally used as a retreat by the managers of Dyer Island and their families. It currently houses a variety of local artefacts including the largest privately owned collection of relics from the HMS Birkenhead which sank at Danger Point near Gansbaai in 1845.
There is also a collection of historic photos of Gansbaai and surrounding areas.
