Shark Bay

Shark Bay, also widely known as Klein Oostewal Beach, is  Child-friendly and probably the most beautiful beach in Langebaan. It’s located at the southernmost point of Langebaan.

There are no sharks; the bay gets its name from the harmless, small sand sharks and guitarfish that use the warm, shallow waters as a nursery

And no, you won’t find any sharks here. So what will you find? Clear and shallow water, incredibly beautiful colours, and on weekends, many families paddleboarding and swimming here all day long. There is one snack bar where you can get ice cream and toasted sandwiches

The beach is known for translucent, warm turquoise waters and bright white sands that look like a tropical island getaway.

Seashells are often found on this beach; see our seashell identification guide

The landscape changes dramatically depending on the tide. At low tide, massive sandbanks emerge, creating beautiful walking paths through the shallow turquoise pools. At high tide, the water fills right up to the shoreline vegetation

The beach is globally recognised as one of the finest kiteboarding spots in the world. During the summer windy season (October to April), consistent South-Easterly winds blow across the bay.  The lagoon is shallow and flat for hundreds of metres out; it is a safe zone for beginners to learn, with no heavy breaking surf, making it popular for stand-up paddleboarding.
