Santos Beach

Beach in Mossel Bay

This Mossel Bay beach is one of the most popular spots on the south coast for locals and tourists alike. There are many activities to enjoy such as snorkeling, swimming, and fishing plus dolphin and whale watching.

The golden sands make up wide beaches with lots of room for walking and playing games. During the summer season, there are lifeguards all along the beach to ensure that swimmers and children are safe. The Pavilion was built in 1916 by Mr. W. Swart and architect Mr. Harry Davidge-Pitts.

The Santos Pavilion

Perched on the golden sands of Santos Beach, the Santos Pavilion was constructed in 1916. It was inspired by the Royal Pavilion in Brighton and built by W.J.R. Swart; this Edwardian-style structure quickly became the beating heart of beachside leisure in Mossel Bay.

Originally, the Pavilion included cloakrooms for bathers and a restaurant.   Its wide deck became the gathering place for the community, hosting everything from grand receptions to casual afternoons in the sun. It remains one of the few pavilions from that era still in use—a testament to its enduring charm.

Close to the beach is a wildlife sanctuary. You can visit Seal Island or take a cruise at sunset.

Santos Beach has blue flag status. There is also a café/restaurant at the beach.

Dogs are NOT allowed on the beach in season but during the period from 1 February to 30 November, dog owners are allowed to walk their dogs between the hours of 06:00 and 20:00
