Onrus Beach

Beach in Hermanus

The crescent shaped beach at Onrus near Hermanus is popular for surfing because the waves have a consistent swell. Beginners to advanced surfers enjoy the waves here. It is quite sheltered, making it ideal for summer surfing. Breaks are mainly to the right. However, always be careful of the submerged rocks on the roadside of the beach. Surfers and bodyboarders share the waves but the strong currents make it treacherous for swimmers. The tranquil lagoon that opens to the sea after heavy rains compensates for this. Facilities include cloakrooms with showers and a restaurant that overlooks the lagoon, white beaches, and the beautiful blue bay beyond.

Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells. Shell identification guide
