Murludi Trails and fruit farm

In the Witzenberg Mountains is the Murludi Hiking Trail. It offers spectacular views of the Tulbagh valley and diverse plant life. There is 10km of safe, well-maintained hiking trails (ranging from 2 hours to a day hike).

The Hiking Trail offers two routes, the Elsbos Route (10km) and the River Route (4km).

A shorter route follows around the orchards and the irrigation dam. Here you will see how a working farm operates. Orchards include cling peaches, apricots, and nectarines. The farm has been in the Van der Westhuizen family since the 1970s. Visitors are welcome on picking days. The fruit-picking days are a highlight of the farm’s summer calendar.

A longer route passes at the foot of the lower hills of the  Witzenberg Mountains. Here you will see beautiful mountain fynbos and some of the finest views in the valley.

You need to have a permit. No hiking will be allowed unless an official permit can be presented. Permits can be obtained from the Tulbagh Tourism office (023 230 1348). Dogs are not allowed on this hike or on Murludi Farm.

Fruit Picking

Fresh fruit sales and picking season will be available from mid-December. The perfect family day out – Eat as you pick and fill your container to the brim with ripe, juicy apricots straight from the trees.

Outside of the trails and the picking days, families and couples can come for picnics. In summer, it’s cool under the willow trees along the river in the lush garden landscape.
