Kelpbaai beach
Kelpbaai (Kelp Bay) is a small beach on the West Coast within the Blaauwberg Conservation Area between Kreeftebaai and Haakgat. It is called Kelpbaai because of the Kelp Beds that are found just beyond the rocks offshore. The beach is easily accessible from the parking area, just off Otto Du Plessis Drive between Big Bay & Melkbosstrand
Wooden steps and a few sandy pathways lead to the beach from the parking area
This beach is usually quiet, except for hot sunny weekends or peak season. It is popular with families walking their dogs or letting children play in the rock pools.
Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells. Shell identification guide
There is no protection from the wind, so choose a still day to visit this beach.
Permits are required to fish here. See the Colourdots coastal and nature use guide
