Jan Dankaert Museum
Local history in Porterville
The Jan Dankaert Museum highlights the town’s history and features Khoisan displays. Jan Dankaert led the first expedition that travelled through this area in 1660. The building was built in 1879 and was initially used as a courthouse and prison. There is also a permanent exhibition of rock painting art from the Groot Winterhoek mountains.
