Hike to Boomslang Cave

Boomslang Cave is named that way because you have to crawl on your hands and knees to enter. After a short while, the cave opens up into an enormous chamber where we can stand and stretch out. At the second exit, see magnificent views over Fishhoek.
Walk for about 20 minutes along the ridge where you can see both oceans before you arrive at the entrance of the second cave, named Robin Hood. (This is an extremely challenging route) Return down the trail through Echo Valley.

Near the entrance of the cave is another smaller cave, “White Dome Grotto”  inside, you will find a labyrinth of tunnels.

Where to go?

Park on Boyes Drive above Kalk Bay, then hike up the demarcated route into Echo Valley. The other end of the cave overlooks Fishhoek. It’s best to hike the route in daylight. In winter, sections of the cave occasionally fill with about 30 cm of water. You will need a torch and/or headlamp as the cave is deep and dark. Avoid shining the light at and disturbing the bats that have made the cave their home.

This is not a good choice of hie if you’re claustrophobic; leopard crawling is necessary to reach the other side of the tunnel.
