Glencairn Beach
This beach is roughly four kilometres north of Simons Town. The train reaches Glencairn station. There is also loads of parking. Glencairn Beach is popular with locals for exercise and dog walking. Water sports enthusiasts can be found on the beach. Mostly at the Northern end of the beach, windsurfers and kite surfers make good use of the South-Easter. Surfers and kayakers also often use this beach.
Shark spotters who double as a lookout for southern right whales ensure that the waters are safe to swim or paddle around in.
A shallow tidal pool built in the 1920s at the beach’s southern end is safe for children to play in. The mouth of the Else River on the beach is a protected wetland. Visitors have to cross the railway line to get to the beach. Ablution facilities are available.
Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells. Shell identification guide
