Driftsands Nature Reserve
Nature reserve in Kuils River
Driftsands Nature Reserve is a provincial nature reserve run by Cape Nature Conservation. The reserve conducts environmental education activities and is strategically located in an area that can provide impoverished communities with access to nature. Driftsands also protects remnants of the endangered vegetation type Cape Flats Dune Strandveld.
The reserve has unfortunately been occupied by squatters since the COVID disaster many having lost their jobs and homes. A number of people also stay within the flood line, some on a dam wall and others below the dam wall which puts them in some danger.”
