De Kom
De Kom, not far from Slangkop Lighthouse, is a popular swimming spot. It is also one of the best surfing beaches in Cape Town. This is a great family beach with a safe tidal pool with a grassy patch nearby. A bonus is that flamingos often visit the shallows. Horses can be ridden on this beach too.
Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells. Shell identification guide
South of Long Beach you will find De Kom tidal pool. It lies at the edge of the catwalk. It is designed with concrete steps and a handrail. The grass patches under milkwood trees are great for relaxing picnics. This serene swimming spot is popular with kite surfers and camping enthusiasts.
