CP Nel Museum
Museum in Oudtshoorn
CP Nel Museum houses exhibits showing the role of the ostrich trade in the town’s history. It shows the cultural history and lifestyle of the people of the Little Karoo region, as it was during the Victorian era and early 20th century. The museum is named after Col Charles Paul Nel, a businessman who donated his private collection to the Board of Trustees of the museum in 1951. The main building was designed by Charles Bullock in 1906. It was originally the Boys’ High School. The school hall, known as the Rembrandt Hall, was added in 1912. The museum has displays depicting the role of the ostrich trade in the town’s history.
