Paarl Museum

History of Paarl

The Paarl Museum is situated on a section of the farm originally granted to Pieter Janz van Marseveen by Governor Willem Adriaan van der Stel on 8 February 1699. The Museum displays the history of Paarl, it has a superb permanent collection of Cape Antiques (furniture, silver, etc.), artefacts, documents and photographs. Visiors can take a look into the cultural heritage of the town. The museum was established in 1987 and is dedicated to preserving the town’s heritage for the community and visitors. The museum is housed in the “De Oude Pastorij”, a 17th-century Cape Dutch homestead that has been restored to its original state. Many exciting temporary exhibitions can also be seen throughout the year.
