The best Game Farms and Nature Reserves in the Western Cape

 Some Western Cape Game Farms focus on protecting unique plant life, while others are home to the Big Five. Wildlife organisations work to preserve this natural diversity and improve access for local communities, helping build a strong conservation culture. Many reserves are close to Cape Town, making them ideal for day trips. Forests, mountains, and coastal areas offer spectacular scenery and a wide variety of plant and animal life. The Western Cape also has impressive reserves near other major towns, including the West Coast and the Garden Route.

Fauna 

There are many nature reserves in the Western Cape. Some are quite close to Cape Town. There are reserves where visitors can see the Big 5. Buffalo, Elephants, Leopards, Rhinos and Lions. The advantage of visiting a game farm in the Western Cape is that the area is malaria-free unlike reserves further north.

The Cape is home to so many species of animals and birds. The representatives of reptiles and amphibians are particularly varied. The rare Geometric Tortoise (Psammobates geometricus),  is one of the most threatened tortoises in the world, as it has lost 97 per cent of its habitat to agricultural expansion. Many unique frog species can also be found in the Western Cape. The Ghost frog can be found only in the Table Mountain National Park.
