The wreck of the Meisho Maru 38: The vessel was a small Japanese fishing boat, carrying around 250 tons of tuna, that ran aground on 16 November 1982. It was built in 1948, has been lying in the shallow water near Cape Agulhas Lighthouse since it ran aground during a storm in 1982. The accident happened close to shore, and all 17 crew members managed to swim to safety without loss of life. The surviving shell of the doomed vessel is rusting as it is constantly battered by wind and waves. The boat was intact till fairly recently when it split in two.

Authorities discourage climbing onto the wreck. The remaining metal is unstable, and the surrounding currents can be strong and unpredictable.
