Pollsmoor Prison Restaurant is called ‘Idlanathi‘ which means ‘eat with us’. Here inmates who are near the end of their sentences are given the opportunity to learn the catering business. and to develop work experience and skills.

You can get an inexpensive meal served by the prisoners. The eatery caters to breakfast and lunch, simple grills, sandwiches, burgers, and chips are served.

Pollsmoor Maximum Security Prison is a working prison. Its claim to fame is that this is where Nelson Mandela was transferred after his stint on Robben Island. Pollsmoor is a large prison with an inmate population of around 7,000. Some of South Africa’s most dangerous criminals are incarcerated here.  A visit here is recommended if you are open-minded and keen to experience an eye-opening cultural connection. The restaurant also caters for events.
