Marie Rawdon Museum
showing a bygone era in Matjiesfontein
The Marie Rawdon Museum is housed in the old train station under the platform. It is widely considered the most beautifully chaotic and unusual private collection in the country. Artefacts from the elegant Victorian era are displayed here. Included are military, household, and personal items from that time such as clocks, cameras, and all sorts of odds and ends, including old bicycles, some antiquated dental equipment, vintage wedding dresses, antique cameras, and a collection of personal letters and items left behind by the British soldiers who occupied the station.
