Kreeftebaai

Beach in Blouberg

Kreeftebaai, Crayfish Bay, is a small rocky beach that is within the Blaauwberg Conservation Area. Cray fishing is no longer permitted. This beach is popular with locals and frequented by ‘anglers’, ‘dog walkers’ and ‘families. Children spend hours playing in the rock pools. See the illustrated guide to sea fishing

Kreeftebaai is on the Cape West Coast, off Otto du Plessis Drive between Melkbosstrand and Big Bay, accessible via a sandy parking area.

Signboards identify the beaches along this part of the coastline, but they are easily missed. It is best to slow your car and when you see a parking area, check the sign to see which beach it is.

Kreeftebaai is not suitable for swimming as the sea gets quite rough with strong currents. However, the rock pools are quite big and deep. The beach is less pleasant when it’s windy.

Walking along this beach alone is not recommended as muggings have been reported. It is better to visit the beach in groups, and it is also better to take your dog along with you.

Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells. Shell identification guide
