Safe swimming in Hawston

Hawston Beach is immaculate and flanked by dunes and coastal mountains. It has blue flag status and is safe for swimming surfing and stand-up paddling, and body-boarding. Lifeguards are permanently on duty during peak season, between December and March, This beach is not often crowded and is great for birdwatching and whale and dolphin spotting.

Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells. Shell identification guide

There are braai facilities, picnic areas, a restaurant, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. There are interpretive boards with interesting information about the vegetation and wildlife in the area.
