The Shoe Museum chronicles shoe manufacture in South Africa in the last 100 years. At the start of industrialization in South Africa in about 1918, Andries Petrus Lubbe started a bridle and shoe repair business in Bird Street, Stellenbosch.  During the 1940’s he started experimenting with shoe manufacture. In 1956 the shoe factory opened near Du Toit Station in Stellenbosch.
