Beaumont Wine Estate is family-owned and managed. It is situated in the heart of the town of Bot Rivier. The farm, home to the region’s oldest wine cellar, was originally established in the 1700s by the Dutch East India Company as a supply farm producing fruit, vegetables, dairy, wine, and flour. Jayne and Raoul Beaumont bought the farm, Compagnes Drift, in 1974 and set about replanting the vineyards. The farm was transformed through hard work and an adventurous spirit. Raoul was a maverick of the vineyards and motorcycles and Jayne was an artist, teacher, and mother. Jayne pioneered the first wine, making small amounts of Pinotage bearing her hand-drawn label in the late 1970s. Every visitor at Beaumont Wine Estate is welcomed with heart-warming hospitality into our Tasting Room and the Zest Deli & Kitchen. We only use the freshest produce and offer a seasonal menu that celebrates our local suppliers as well as what is being harvested off the farm. Accommodation at the farm is sumptuous and well-appointed. The watermill at Beaumont Wines is over 200 years old and the wooden water wheel has been restored to full working order. Limited quantities of stone ground flour are being produced on the farm Enjoy the gardens, MTB trails, walks, bird life and fishing opportunities.

The Bot river arises at Theewaterskloof and the Swart River joins it close to the Wildekrans wine estate. It empties into the sea at Fisherhaven at the Bot River Estuary. This is a relatively shallow estuarine lake/lagoon, roughly 7 km long and about 2 km at its widest, and is part of the Bot-Kleinmond Estuarine System. It became a Ramsar site wetland in 2017. The Rooisand Nature Reserve occupies around 60% of the western frontage of the lagoon. The lagoon is a prime bird-watching spot in the Overberg. It is incorporated into the Rooisands Nature Reserve, part of the Kogelberg Biosphere, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is a bird hide and walkways create accessibility for all. The habitat is a mix of open water, lagoon edge, marsh, and coastal thicket. The Western Cape coast supports many species of seabirds. For full identification and seasonal details, see this comprehensive Western Cape bird guide. Bot River and Bot River Estuary The Bot River wine ward covers the area from the Bot River Lagoon up into the foothills of the Groenlandberg and Babylonstoren mountains. It forms part of the agricultural transition zone of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

The Groenlandberg conservancy (Green Mountain country) Conservancy is within a mountain range beyond the Hottentots Holland range. The area is commonly known as “The Elgin Valley. For hundreds of years, Khoi people grazed their cattle here. This is the fertile Cape fruit country where deciduous fruit, including grapes, are grown. In the early days of the Cape colony, the area took several days to reach by ox wagon. The conservancy ranges from Viljoenspas in the north to Houwhoek and Botrivier in the south. It is contained by the Palmiet, Bot, and Jakkals rivers. Conservation efforts by local farmers and residents have been initiated to take stock of the environment and cultural resources. A voluntary forum was established in 1994 and there has been a noticeable increase in sustainability, social upliftment and environmental conservation on private land. There has also been a focus on the removal of alien plants which are the biggest threat to plant and animal biodiversity. There is an annual cost of R600 million needed to clear the over 10 million hectares of land in South Africa. Facebook
