There is good fishing to be had here, as well as mussel collecting and crayfish catching. There are masses of rockpools to explore. It is not advisable to walk alone on the beach; it is better to stay in a group, as there are long deserted stretches. The tidal Pool, the Strandfontein Pavilion, and the Amphitheatre are popular. Strandfontein has the largest tidal swimming pool in Southern Africa, and it was a movie location for the Free Willy film series. Beach swimming is relatively safe, and there are lifesavers during the season. However, it is best to swim in the tidal pool or to stay very close to shore. Children’s play areas with Jungle Gyms are available for those who prefer not to swim.  Picnic and braai areas are also available. Horses and dogs are allowed. Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells.
