Mnandi Beach is a lovely Blue Flag beach on the False Bay coastline. It is frequented mostly by locals from Strandfontein and Khayelitsha. Close to Mitchell’s Plain, this 5km beach can be windy. The currents are quite treacherous. There are demarcated swimming areas with lifeguards on duty during the season. There is good fishing here and the beach is great for long walks. During the winter months, you can view whales and seals from your car in the ample parking area. There is a recreational space with water slides and a swimming pool with other facilities such as picnic spots and a tuck shop. Shells can often be found on this beach, especially after winter storms and low tide. If you plan to collect shells, please follow local regulations and take only empty shells. The Midnight Rider

The Midnight Rider is seen on Friday nights. After midnight in Spine road close to the high school, a phantom motorcyclist completely clad in black speeds down the road and over the bridge. It does not slow down but speeds up working through the gears with the engine whining. Some say he is headless. Whether he has a head or not the bike never leaves the bridge. This story is linked to an actual event where a man on a Harley Davidson crashed at the foot of the bridge and died.

Westridge Gardens

Westridge Gardens in the heart of Mitchell’s Plain has a lot to offer. Indigenous Cape fynbos is one of the park’s most valuable treasures. Funding for the park was received by the Urban Renewal Fund and the park was established. A rose garden and a number of pathways through Westridge Gardens were established. Dog walking and cycling are allowed. There is a children’s play area that includes facilities for children with physical disabilities. The skateboard ramp is another feature of this park. The park is popular for wedding photographs. Parties and small celebrations can be hosted in the public area by prior arrangement. Many community concerts are held at the park as well as the Mitchells Plain Festival. There’s parking inside the grounds. Leashed dogs are allowed, making it easy to bring the family pet along.
